A picturesque haven nestled in the heart of the Scottish Borders, offering a timeless blend of history, elegance and natural beauty. Our primary focus is to provide the perfect backdrop for your dream wedding, as we open our doors to couples seeking a truly idyllic venue.
Beyond its role as a wedding venue, Branxholme Castle extends a warm welcome to guests with our charming bed and breakfast accommodations. Additionally, we offer two exquisite holiday cottages, providing a tranquil retreat amidst the scenic Scottish landscape. Explore the Orangery, where every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we invite visitors to savour delightful moments over coffee, tea, afternoon tea and light lunches.
In the picturesque Scottish Borders, Branxholme Castle is located three miles (5 km) southwest of the market town of Hawick. The castle, which had been abandoned for twelve years, was inhabited by Carol Shanley and Brian Desport in July 2017. Together with Buccleuch Estates, they have meticulously updated the entire property to create a lovely family home and business that serves as a wedding and events venue, beauty spa, and cafe in addition to providing B&B lodging.
Furthermore, Carol and Brian converted the East Wing into a four-bedroom, self-contained holiday home with a spacious kitchen, dining area, and living area. This property also comes with plenty of private parking, a sizable garden, and a BBQ area. Located inside the cottage’s adjoining 15th-century tower is a large games room with a pool table and dartboard for all the family to enjoy.
Beautiful accommodation in stunning location. well equipped, lovely furnishings. Fantastic family/dining area very sociable as open plan kitchen. Hot tub is perfect.
We did not leave the house for the two days we were there as just wanted to enjoy our surroundings in the comfort of the East Wing.
Highly recommended for special breaks. Would very much like to return at some point. Fabulous venue. Cafe on site.
Fantastic morning at the spa today, warm welcome from Carol upon arrival and throughout. therapists were pleasant, massage and facial very relaxing.
Facilities beautiful with great views. Brunch was plentiful and cooked to perfection, great experience and can’t wait to go back.
We enjoyed a lovely, sunny week at Branxholme Castle. Spent most of our time outside in the garden. Loved the hot tub and games room.
The east wing cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped, and it was great fun to stay in a real castle. We even had our own tower with spiral staircase!
Perfect self-catering accommodation for our group of 8. Located close to Hawick, a short drive to the town and shops.
Thank you to Carol and Brian for being so friendly and welcoming!
This was a once in a lifetime incredible place to stay. It felt like home but also magical for our large family. All of the staff onsite were incredibly friendly, helpful and just all around awesome.
We recommend this place in a heartbeat.
We had wonderful weekend stay at Branxholme Castle when in Hawick for an Easter wedding.
We stayed in the Buccleuch Suite, which was so elegant & beautiful with stunning countryside views. Breakfast was delicious, obviously we went for the full Scottish, we were not disappointed, fresh, quality ingredients, beautifully cooked.
Carol made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended
Carol and Brian are the perfect hosts; nothing was ever too much trouble and they went above and beyond to make our stay and wedding day everything we wished for and more. Picturesque and peaceful setting with lots to explore for the little ones. Rooms are luxurious and every detail has been thought about.
All our guests commented on the delicious food and breakfasts were a particular highlight. Can’t wait to visit again this year!
